Austria: Melk Monastery, Donau River Bike Ride

Melk, Austria: 7 October 2016

This trip was with the entire study abroad group. We left early on Friday morning from the street in front of the Austro-American Institute in Vienna and drove a couple hours to the monastery in Melk where we had a group tour.
From the Monestary, we went to a bike rental place to pick up our bikes which we rode for 20 miles or so down the Danube river. The path wove in and out of little villages, vineyards, orchards, and even a couple castles.

Most of the path was paved, but in the little villages, it was all cobble stone which made or a very bumpy ride! Everyone's bums were sore the next day.
We stopped for lunch at a little restaurant where we got cheese Spätzle. After lunch we biked over to this castle and hiked our way up the hillside to take a look. It is abandoned with no exhibit or anything, so it was fun to just walk around the ruins.
We stopped at a park along the way.
This is Will Allen and I riding through one of the villages.
